What Are HPD & DOB Violations?

When a New York City building fails to meet the standards set by city agencies, those agencies issue formal violations against the property. The two most common sources of violations for building owners and property managers are the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) and the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).

DOB Violations

The Department of Buildings issues violations when a property has structural, mechanical, or code compliance issues. Common DOB violations include:

Facade deterioration or unsafe exterior conditions
Unpermitted construction or alterations
Electrical and plumbing deficiencies
Fire safety non-compliance
Elevator and mechanical system failures

HPD Violations
